The Pima County Sheriff's Department Air Unit has a multi-pronged mission including patrol support, surveillance, prisoner extradition, border crime support and search and rescue. To accomplish these varied tasks the Air Unit has four aircraft. Patrol support is provided seven days a week using two Cessna T206T, Sentinel Mark II, Turbine, fixed wing aircraft, with integrated observation equipment. For personnel and prisoner transport the Department uses a Twin engine Cessna 310R. For border support and search and rescue an American Eurocopter AS350B3e helicopter, with a Goodrich hoist/winch, is utilized. All of this is accomplished with a sergeant, six pilots, a rotating Tactical flight Deputy crew and three full-time A&P mechanics.
