Animal Cruelty

BIRDS, CATS, DOGS, FERRETS, FISH, HORSES, LIVESTOCK (CATTLE, PIGS, GOATS, SHEEP), LLAMAS, POCKET PETS, POT BELLIED PIGS, RABBITS, SNAKES, REPTILES

IT IS A CRIME TO:

  • Not provide adequate food, water and shelter-NEGLECT
  • Not to provide veterinary care to an injured animal
  • Abuse, mistreat, torture or inflict unnecessary serious physical injury to an animal
  • To kill an animal in a manner that causes protracted suffering to that animal
  • Dump or otherwise abandon an animal
  • For amusement or gain, causing any animal to fight with another animal or causing any animals to injure each other

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY:

  • Deceased animals in unusual areas or with unusual injuries
  • Animal sounds that may indicate they are in distress-inside or outside
  • Hearing but rarely or never seeing animals in a given area; dogs or birds/roosters
  • Thin, emaciated or injured animals on property with or without residents

REPORTING:
The Pima County Sheriff's Department in cooperation with other state and county agencies and their investigators address the issue of animal cruelty and neglect.
