On March 10, 2008, deputies from the Tucson Mountain District responded to an address in the 12000 block of W. Manville Road regarding a check welfare call. When deputies arrived, they observed several hundred dogs living in very inhumane conditions. Detectives assigned to the Animal Cruelty Task Force, as well as Pima County Animal Care, were called to respond.
Based on the condition of the premises and the animals, a search warrant was served; and, a total of 851 dogs and 36 birds were signed over to the Humane Society.
As a result of this investigation, Billy R. Jones (DOB 09-09-40), Wanda L. Jones (DOB 02-04-44), and Robert Allen Jones (DOB 07-12-64) have been indicted on the following:
37 Counts – Cruel Mistreatment of an Animal, a class 6 felony
3 Counts – Cruelty to Animals, a class 6 felony
1 Count – Fraudulent Scheme or Practice, a class 5 felony
